It used to be that you would walk in to a classroom on campus at college and sit down next to a fellow student. You would turn to that student and say, ‘Hi, my name…’ this is how you made friends, made enemies, or some weird combination of both. Sometimes these friends, boyfriends, or girlfriends even turned into spouses. This was the number one way to meet people up until about a decade ago. Gone are those times of yesteryear, and here we are in the springtime of our technological love affair.
Facebook is this generation’s way to network online
With the invention and widespread use of the Internet college students and young adults are keeping in touch with one another and even meeting new people online through websites like Facebook. Facebook is this generation’s way to network online with college buddies, high school friends, and even co-workers. So why should you have a Facebook account? Well, let’s take a look at the numbers. ‘Survey says’ that 80 percent of students who network online do so through the use of their Facebook account. If you are new to online networking or have never heard of Facebook, here is the scoop.
Facebook is an online community
Facebook is an online community that you can join based on where you went to, or currently go, to high school or college, or where you are employed. It is a place to stay connected or reconnect with fellow students and co-workers. It is ultimately the place to play and have fun. Facebook allows members to create a profile page within minutes. Your profile can include your photos, comments or thoughts. Having a Facebook account also allows members to search for other members, which is the key to this online network.
Facebook has an easy and user-friendly setup
Facebook has an easy and user-friendly setup process so it is easy for first-time users as well as the experts. Facebook users tend to check their account at least once a day. Users log-on to check the site for new messages that others have sent them, to send text messages, upload pictures from their mobile phone, and to search for people that like the same things that you do. So what’s the catch?
Well, if there is a catch it’s just that you have to have a valid high school, college, or alumni e-mail address in order to register. Also you are confined to your own school’s network, so you will not be able to interact with everyone that is on the network. Of course, this is good if you are a college student and do not want to ‘accidentally’ hook-up on the network with a 15-year-old that is still in high school. It also saves you the trouble of your parents finding out what you did on Spring Break last year in Cancun. Click here to learn more about Facebook.
If 80 percent of students have a Facebook account then you should too! It will put you on the fast track to finding new friends, boyfriends, girlfriends and maybe even spouses on your college campus.
